Gray & Yellow

I absolutely love all of the gray & yellow I've been seeing lately... From nurseries to living rooms, my eye is always drawn to the color combination.  And then I saw {me}longings' recent post on a gray & yellow color scheme for her cousin's upcoming wedding!

I just couldn't help but pull together some detail pictures from our wedding with the same colors...

Since it was spring, we went with vibrant yellows, dark grays & creams.  I've definitely seen these colors done in so many different ways, and adored them all!  Our wedding was nothing over-the-top, but I thought it would be fun to share.

It's hard to believe that in almost 2 months, we'll be celebrating our 2-year anniversary!  Time absolutely flies when you're having fun... And renovating!

Sarah & Ryan

Sarah & Ryan's wedding was amazing... fun-filled & heart-felt, like the bride & groom!  The Baucoms hosted a great rehearsal dinner at Olde Providence Racquet Club.  There was delicious barbeque & sides for dinner, followed by a slide show, and 'open mic' for toasts.  I have never heard so many people say 'these two are perfect for each other'!  It was such a testament to how much love & support was in the room... and how great Sarah & Ryan are together.

{with the gorgeous almost-Mrs. Baucom}

Saturday morning the bridesmaids headed to the Ballantyne hotel to get ready with the bride!  Everyone that came in the room to say hello mentioned how calm the vibe in there was... must be all that yoga training paying off!  Sarah was calm as could be, but so excited to get married at the same time!

Then we headed over to the Dairy Barn for pictures and to finish getting ready.  The band was warming up, and the place looked incredible!  The leaves here in Charlotte are still changing, and it provided the most beautiful backdrop to all the great fall centerpieces, flowers and barn decor!

The whole day was perfect, and Sarah was an absolutely stunning bride!  I think the pictures speak for themselves... Everyone had a great time!

Lot of love & best wishes to Mr. & Mrs. Ryan Baucom!  I know you have a lifetime of happiness together ahead of you!

Two-for-Two

We are 'two-for-two' in the engagement party department... Two parties over the past two weekends that celebrated two couples we love!

This past weekend, we were fortunate enough to celebrate James & Stephanie!  Unfortunately, I forgot my camera at home... but was able to capture a few shots with my iPhone.

bride & groom -to be from the weekend prior

Stephanie's maid of honor Kate hosted the party, and put out a delicious spread!  I'm dying to get a dip recipe from Katie, and of course, Megan's chocolate coconut bar recipe too.  We had the best time, and can't wait until the big day in July!

The weekend prior, we partied for Sarah & Ryan at Andrew Blair's!  With their wedding just around the corner, it was so fun to get together with everyone... and see how excited the whole group is for the upcoming festivities!

We always feel so fortunate to have such amazing friends in Charlotte... and occassions like these just make us feel even more blessed.  Welcome to the marriage club, friends!  We couldn't be happier for you!

Congratulations!

... to our sweet friends, James & Stephanie on their engagement this weekend!  We are so incredibly happy for these two, and were so glad to share a quick glass of wine with them last night to celebrate!

Funny story:  Last weekend, over July 4, my dad's friend was giving James a hard time for not being engaged... Even (jokingly) telling Stephanie that he knew some guys she could meet.  James must have had so much willpower not to let it slip that he had the ring already!  Unknown to all of us, the proposal was just around the corner!

All that patience paid off... Much love & happy wedding planning, Stephanie & James!

Happy Couple

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! Pictures & a quick recap of our fun weekend to come!

For now, be sure to check out Sarah's amazing engagement pictures here and at her photographer's blog.  I've looked at them a million times already and am absolutely in love!  The pictures totally showcase Sarah & Ryan's love for each other and their personalities.

Can't wait for their wedding in October!

Congratulations, Andy & Lauren!

We had another busy & incredibly fun weekend! Friday night I grabbed a quick dinner with my dad and sister, then headed home to clean house and take care of laundry (not so fun, but definitely a life-saver when we came home on Sunday with no chores to do).

Early Saturday morning, I dropped off Ellie with her Grandma & Grandpa Whittaker (who we owe a huge thank you for all the weekends they’ve kept their sweet little grandpuppy)… and picked up Amy for an afternoon at the lake. Our husbands headed up the night before, after a Masonboro Boys show at Andy & Lauren’s rehearsal dinner.

After a half-day of boating and water skiing, we caravanned to High Point for the end of the World Cup (and showers) in time for Andy & Lauren’s nuptials! I think I speak for everyone when I say that the wedding was an amazing time!

{gorgeous flower center pieces}

The band kept the party going, with a costume change mid-way through the reception and lots of great music. The bride was beautiful (her dress was stunning!), and the groom was beaming!

{first dance... so sweet}

{with my favorites, early in the night}

{my favorites, late into the night... we are really fun}

We headed back home on Sunday morning, and were able to spend dinner with Kelly & Nick – fresh home from their Savannah & Saint Augustine honeymoon!

Now it’s back to that pesky 'to-do' list

Wedding Weekend!

We were so fortunate to celebrate Kelly & Nick’s marriage this past weekend! It was definitely another successful Whittaker wedding…

The celebrations kicked off with a bridesmaids luncheon on Friday at Myers Park Country Club. The setting was beautiful, and the food was delicious… Each person in the wedding party even had their own personalized cake for dessert!

On Friday afternoon, we had the rehearsal at the church, followed by a rehearsal dinner at The Ivey. For some reason, rehearsal dinners are always my favorite part of wedding weekends… This one was a great chance to meet some of Nick’s family! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Nick’s sister Mandy’s blog, Kuzak's Closet, a daily read for me and now featuring her amazing pictures (so much better than the ones in this post) of the wedding!

We were also able to catch up with Jeff’s family, in from New Orleans, which is always so much fun (and we wish happened more often!) To finish off the night, there was an amazing slide show and lots of great toasts.

Saturday was the Big Day! Of course, Kelly looked absolutely beautiful! Not to mention how the bride & groom both just radiated with happiness… I feel so blessed that they included me in such a special day.

The reception was on the beautiful campus of Queens University… I can’t wait to see (and share) all the pictures from the photographer. I know there will be so many great shots of the gorgeous bride!

Needless to say, everyone had a great time at the reception! I’m convinced that you can’t have a Whittaker wedding that isn’t fun. The band kept the party going, and there was a lot of dancing…

And a lot of celebrating…

So much love & congratulations to the newly wedded Mr. & Mrs. Chappel!

Another One Bites The Dust

I'm back from another fun-filled beach trip!  We spent the weekend celebrating my sweet sister-in-law Kelly's final days of freedom singledom.

My other sweet sister-in-law, Laura, rode down with me on Friday afternoon.  We made it into the area around dinner time... so a stop at Johnson Creek Tavern was a must!  It is the closest restaurant to Fripp Island, and - fortunately - is also a family favorite with delicious seafood, fried pickles, and hush puppies.

The rest of girls arrived later that evening, and we enjoyed some wine while settling into the house.  On Saturday morning, several of the girls organized the absolute cutest lingerie shower I have ever seen!  Seriously.

The theme was 'bootylicious,' with all of the food, drinks, music, & games tying into the theme!  For example, there was 'Fruity Patootie Booty Fruit Salad' and 'Pink Pantie Punch'...  And of course, this unforgettable cake:

The rest of the weekend was spent lounging on the beach, enjoying another delicious meal in Beaufort, and getting in lots of chatting & story-telling at the house!

Hopefully Kelly enjoyed her last fling before the ring... Now the countdown to their big day begins!

Amy & Ray Got Hitched!

Sorry for my lack of posts this week… I'd been on a roll with blogging, but this week has been incredibly busy. On to the good stuff though… Last weekend, we had the most amazing time celebrating Ray & Amy’s wedding!

I can sum up the weekend with two stories:

One – After the ceremony was over, we were sitting in the pews waiting to take pictures. A little 5 year-old boy came up to Ray’s mom, and she asked him how he liked the ceremony. He started pointing to all the bridesmaids, saying ‘I saw her and her and her… And I saw the princess!’ (points to Amy)

Such a cute story… Amy was the most gorgeous bride! She & Ray were both literally beaming with happiness, and I’ve never seen a bride so calm! Anything could have happened that day (which, of course, went off without a hitch!) and Amy would’ve been smiling the whole way through.

Two – The next day, I sent a text message to Sarah, saying ‘I woke up with a terrible headache, no voice, and the faint memory of throwing a shoe at Robert Wash (a groomsman)’ Sorry, mom, I know this message makes you proud… Needless to say, the reception was so much fun!

I did lots of my famous finger-pointing, shoulder-shrugging dance, and Sarah did lots of her famous Kathie Lee impersonation. Her response to my text was, ‘I either made a bunch of friends, or lost a bunch.’ That should about sum up the amount of fun had by all.

Oh, and I also made plans for dinner with Peggy & Ed the next time they are in town… Lots of love to Amy’s sweet family for being such wonderful hosts!

I know that this past weekend was just the beginning of a lifetime of love & happiness for the Morrisons! Congratulations!

Married Mathis'

We had a jam-packed weekend, and enjoyed every minute of it! On Friday night, we celebrated my dad's 70th birthday with a surprise party. My siblings & I have been planning this for the last few months, and I'm so glad to report that my dad was truly surprised!

We gathered a few of my dad's oldest friends along with our family... and had tons of food, a picture slide show, and the card below that my brother John created for everyone to sign. Overall, it was a great night and I know it meant a lot to my dad!

On Saturday, we celebrated the marriage of our good friends, Jason & Lindsay (I'm throwing out this post title as their possible blog name... Wedded Whittaker and The Married Mathis' works right?) Lindsay was gorgeous, and the reception was so much fun! We had the best time celebrating with the bride & groom and lots of good friends!

Lots of love and best wishes to the new Mr. & Mrs. Mathis!

We topped the weekend off with a day at the lake for Jeff, while I enjoyed a bridal shower for Amy at Nolen Kitchen! Unfortunately, I forgot to bring along the camera for this event... But you can be sure that I'll have one for the wedding (in less than 1 month!)
Sunday night we welcomed Jeff's dad and brother back from a spring break trip to Spain! Now it's back to work, after a weekend of celebrations!
